I Finally Started this Blog

Finally, after months of procrastinating, I've started this blog.  Part of me is relieved, but the other part of me is left wondering, now what?  I guess I should say what's the purpose behind this blog.  The idea for this blog was born out of discussion with some colleagues about popular movies.  The conversation started as a result of my mentioning that there were a few films that I had never watched before in my life (e.g. the Godfathers, Goodfellas, Scarface, Friday the 13th, among many others).  Upon hearing this, my colleagues were in a state of bewilderment.  "How did you make it through life without watching any of these movies," they inquired.  I wasn't quite sure how to respond to their questions.  Moreover, I was just as perplexed as they were that I had made it so long without watching so many of these so-called "classic" movies.  However, I must also note that I've actually watched many films over the course of my life, some of which were on the list developed by my colleagues. 

Upon further inquiry, my colleagues and I, realized that there were numerous movies that I needed to watch as soon as possible.  They proceeded to make list after list of what they felt were "great" movies for me to watch.  The various lists covered multiple genres and various cinematic eras.  The vast majority of the movies were known to me, with only a few being completely unheard of.  Again, there were actually quite a few movies on the various lists that I had previously watched.  However, since I'm a person that forgets films, I kept the movies that I know I've previously watched on the lists.  I figured, it wouldn't hurt anything to watch them over again, particularly if they were pretty decent.

As I'm completing this entry, I don't have the list that my colleagues dictated in front of me.  I'll try to type up the list in a future entry.  I would love to see if others agree with the movies they've suggested.  Some would say that I'm on a journey to watch the must-see "1,000 movies...," but this is not necessarily the case.  Generally, I enjoy watching movies and I would love to see many of the titles that have been suggested to me.  For me, this simply is not a quest to watch as many movies as I can.  This is more of an opportunity for me to enjoy, what I hope will be, some great cinematic experiences.  I'm looking forward to the start of this great journey!
